Painting made in Jd. Ângela, South Zone of São Paulo-Brazil. It was 11 days of hard work to accomplish this project.
This work emerged from thinking about my daily anxieties and the search to understand their origins and impacts. From there, I realized that much of my anxiety is tied to future projections and attachments to the past. The mural’s composition is structured around three central characters intertwined in a symbolic dance of balance. Inspired by the practice of ‘Contact Improvisation,’ these characters personify the present, future, and past, each wearing a mask that connects them to the world of ideas and memories. Despite their differences, they are inseparable from the experiences and emotions of the central ‘self,’ the present, representing the interdependence between what has been and what is yet to come.
The character on the left gazes at the sky, surrendering to the possibilities of tomorrow, while the character on the right looks downward, rooted in the past and conservatism. The central ‘self,’ meanwhile, balances between these two forces, symbolizing the ability to stay connected to the present while acknowledging both origins and aspirations.
The two plants present are rue, representing environmental protection, and saffron, closely associated with the heart and grounding.
It was a pleasure to bring this work to life on a larger scale and share with the city and its people a bit of what I feel, offering the possibility of new perspectives and interpretations.
